Technology companies leading the way at Aberdeen Energy & Innovation Parks

Independent Internet Service Provider Converged Communication Solutions, along with SureVoIP, Scotland’s leading Internet Telephony provider, have been appointed as the preferred suppliers of Internet and communication services to the Aberdeen Energy and Innovation Parks.

The contract, which is potentially worth over £350,000, will see Converged supply Internet services to the parks, with SureVoIP providing IP telephony (VoIP).

The provision of services will bring advanced technology to the eighty-plus businesses located within the parks, which are held in joint venture by Buccleuch Property and Scottish Enterprise. The offering will be launched across the parks as a new ‘serviced’ office provision to all park tenants.

"We are absolutely delighted to have secured this significant contract with the Aberdeen Energy & Innovation Parks and look forward to assisting businesses within the parks to access leading technology for internet and communications,” said Neil Christie, Technical Director for Converged. “We have worked with SureVoIP on a number of projects and look forward to delivering this contract in partnership with them."

"Pre-existing high capacity fibre exists between park tenants and Converged’s backbone network, and consequently we can provide very high bandwidth, very quickly, to new tenants, or those with changing requirements" added Neil.

Business tenants will be able to gain high speed internet access via this fibre at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods. The result is highly reliable bandwidth suitable for carrying a wide range of business critical applications.

SureVoIP managing director Gavin Henry said: "SureVoIP, in partnership with Converged, are delighted to be selected to provide hosted VoIP telephony services to businesses working in and operating from the Aberdeen Energy & Innovation Parks."

"The contract highlights the parks, their owners and managers as forward-thinking organisations, using modern telecommunications to help develop the Scottish economy and allow it to flourish by working directly with service providers."

SureVoIP, regulated by Ofcom, is a member of the Internet Telephony Service Providers Association (ITSPA). The company is also the holder of an ITSPA quality mark accreditation.

Converged Communication Solutions is a leading Aberdeen-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) and IT support company, offering an extensive portfolio of inter-site networking solutions.

SureVoIP Selects NetDev's DRUM for Enterprise Audio Conferencing and Web Meetings

FreeSWITCHOpenSIPSOpen SourcePostgreSQLSuretec

NetDev, a leading telco apps developer, has announced SureVoIP as its first customer for DRUM, a new web meeting solution with integrated audio conferencing. SureVoIP is a UK-based provider of Internet telephony which targets the enterprise and SME market.

DRUM was launched in October 2012 as a value-added service to help service providers address the enterprise and small business market. DRUM audio conferencing will be hosted from SureVoIP's network, enabling SureVoIP to extend the range of communications services it offers to its customers, while maintaining control over the service to ensure its customers receive the best possible call quality.

Through DRUM, SureVoIP will be able to address the growing conferencing and web meeting market. According to AMI Research, the combined audio and web conferencing market will grow year on year to reach $2.7 billion by 2014. Despite robust growth in the overall market, service providers have been relatively slow to deliver their own conferencing and web meeting services.

SureVoIP also has the option to deliver DRUM's web meeting application to its customers, in addition to the audio conferencing service. DRUM web meetings is a central repository for every meeting a user attends, allowing participants to create meetings, present and share documents, take notes and assign tasks in the browser. It is an HTML5 application which means users can access and use it from the browser without software downloads or plugins. DRUM also has WebRTC conference calling capability which allows users to join their conference call directly from the web, with no need for an access number or PIN. DRUM web meetings is hosted by NetDev and integrates with audio through simple provisioning settings.

"Audio conferencing is a very natural addition to our services, which means an even fuller range of options for our customers," commented Gavin Henry, Managing Director at SureVoIP. "With DRUM we can extend audio conferencing to a complete web meeting and collaboration solution and WebRTC enabled conference calls can really add value to enterprise meetings and collaboration. By hosting DRUM audio conferencing we maintain ownership of the voice quality and the billing relationship, so we know we can continue to deliver the quality of service that our customers expect from us."

"DRUM delivers audio conferencing as a feature of a much wider web meeting and collaboration service. Users can join and control their conference calls directly from the browser or the fixed/mobile phone", said John Logsdon, CEO and Founder of NetDev. "It adds value to enterprise communications and enables service providers to build revenues from non-subscribers who are invited to the meeting or conference."

Telephones for the professional

AsteriskFreeSWITCHOpenSIPSOpen SourceSuretec

The innovative application of broadband internet technology to traditional telephony is set to radically change the world of business

TO ESTABLISH and maintain a successful business operation, modern-day professionals require an ever-growing arsenal of technology and tools at their disposal.

Topping the list of non-negotiable requirements are a computer, an internet connection, a mobile phone and, of course, a fixed phone line.

The digital age has brought a multitude of advancements to traditional telephony, which now uses a combination of fibre optic cables, microwave transmission links, cellular networks and communication satellites to send voice communications across the world.

However, the fact remains that traditional analogue systems such as wire circuitry are still used to connect that vital last mile from the exchange to the telephone.

Despite a global outlook, the modern-day professional is still very much tied to local-level restraints of limited flexibility and costliness.

Today, innovative application of broadband internet technology to traditional telephony is abolishing the need for this last mile of copper wiring, and is consequently bringing the modern-day professional into the global community.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) transmits voice and multimedia communication through the internet as opposed to the traditional phone line – essentially combining the flexibility and cost efficiency of the internet with the main functions of traditional telephony.

AsteriskFreeSWITCHLinuxOpenSIPSOpen SourceSuretec

ITSPA, The Internet Telephony Service Providers Association, have awarded SureVoIP the ITSPA Quality Mark. This mark is awarded to eligible ITSPA members who demonstrate clear defined customer service specifications and adhere to ITSPA's defined frameworks for:

More information on the quality mark can be found here.

SureVoIP, a UK ITSP based in Scotland and FreeSWITCH

FreeSWITCHOpenSIPSOpen SourcePostgreSQLSuretec

SureVoIP is Scotland's First Dedicated Internet Telephony Service Provider.

Suretec recently got approval from Ofcom, the U.K. communications regulator, to assign U.K. telephone numbers. Therefore, SureVoIP can assign phone numbers across the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The company is also authorised to supply global numbers for over 60 countries.

This is unique in the Scottish market, because other companies act as "middle-men" between clients and service providers.

SureVoIP is partnering with British Telecom (BT) through a VoIP Interconnect to offer clients added benefits. SureVoIP has also partnered with Xconnect on their Global Alliance program, as well as two other U.K. VoIP carriers.

SureVoIP also provides 24/7 emergency telephone support.

Gavin Henry, managing director of SureVoIP, and founding member of the Suretec Group, said, "Our journey to securing the approval from Ofcom has been long and complex, involving the submission of detailed business plans, demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of the Communications Act 2003, various legal requirements, help from ITSPA (we've worked so hard that we will soon be getting the ITSPA Quality Mark), documentation and a significant investment in equipment throughout the U.K. With out FreeSWITCH and the FreeSWITCH community this would not have been possible."

Just signed our BT VoIP interconnect contracts and paid setup fee

AsteriskFreeSWITCHOpenSIPSOpen SourceSuretec Hi All,

Quick one to say we've just signed our BT VoIP interconnect contract and paid up our setup fee. Now on to interop testing then hosting of our Ofcom number allocations!

Our new website will be up very soon for our VoIP ITSP - SureVoIP

Don't worry, that website will be very non-technical in most places unless necessary! :-)

This would not have been possible without the power of Open Source software!

Thanks,

Gavin.

VoIP solutions could benefit from iPhone 4 - Why bother? Get an Android Open Source phone and the new VoIP features now

AsteriskFreeSWITCHLinuxOpen SourceSuretec Hi all,

The iPhone 4, which was officially unveiled on the June 7th at a presentation in San Francisco, includes several new features that will benefit VoIP users. These are touted as:

  • Multi-task when making a VoIP call, so customers can access other applications, such as a calendar, during a conversation.

  • Built-in noise cancellation to eliminate background sounds when making VoIP calls.

  • Videoconferencing will also be possible between iPhones via the Face Time feature, allowing remote employees to partake in business meetings.

  • Longer battery life, while the screen resolution has been significantly improved compared to previous models.

The iPhone 4 will be available in the UK from June 24th.

Wow you may think this is amazing, but all these features have been available on Android phones (Google's Open Source mobile operating system) for ages. I've just got an HTC Desire from O2 and it's the No.1 phone in the world right now. It can do all of above and more, plus the Sipdroid VoIP client is free and works on 3G and WiFi using our VoIP services or anyone elses. Best of all it's free software and just works.

Another good blog post covers why the iPhone can never keep up with Android or Open Source:

"Through a bevy of handset makers, Android can offer a variety of phones that will make it difficult for
Apple to beat with just one hardware release a year. While it is hard to

ever go wrong with an iPhone, Android offers a ton of alternative form

factors, price points and carriers: Sprint (NYSE: S) has released the

first 4G phone on Android; T-Mobile has a new competitive Android phone

with a slide-out keyboard; the HTC Incredible sold by Verizon has been

flying off store shelves; and even Google’s Nexus One still boasts some

of the latest hardware. Not to mention new Android phones from Samsung

and LG (SEO: 066570) coming later this summer."

Google now have figures to show that 100,000 open source Android mobile phones are getting activated daily!

Gavin.

BT VoIP Interconnect approved for our ITSP called SureVoIP!

AsteriskFreeSWITCHOpen SourceSuretec Hi all,

Another quick one, just finished a conference call with BT and our credit check and applications are now all complete and approved. We will have our VoIP interconnect with BT live in month or so!!

Cheers,

Gavin.

All Ofcom number allocations are being approved

AsteriskFreeSWITCHOpenSIPSOpen SourceSuretec Hi all,

Looks like all of them are coming in except critically low areas, but we'll use sub-allocations from our carriers for these areas.

We'll have around 98% UK coverage for numbers in the end. We haven't even finished applying or done 03/07/08/09 yet!

We also got our Communications Provider ID and Carrier-Pre-Select numbers.

More later,

Gavin.
